New Balance Revamps Its 1906L Loafer With “Rich Oak” Suede

Where does "sneaker" end and "loafer" begin?

New Balance Revamps Its 1906L Loafer With “Rich Oak” Suede

The dawn and subsequent success of the New Balance 9060 was something of a warning shot from the Boston brand: we don’t care about making a shoe easy to understand. Among the most surprising headlines of 2024 very much followed that concept, with the New Balance loafer igniting social media feeds in embroiled “love it or hate it” snap reactions. Now, the model is beginning to spread its wings, unwrapping a new suede build in fitting “Rich Oak.”

Both the material and choice of formal brown & black usher the 1906L away from streetstyle, making the shoe a bit easier to digest by approaching the form of a run-of-the-mill loafer. To be sure, the branching geometric overlays that define mainline New Balance 1906R releases on the quarter and at the heel cage ensure these are anything but, yet it’s a turn towards the conventional all the same. Finally, though a slight change, the stitched closure that wraps around the collar continues into a pronounced cup on the forefoot, a first for the model that further echos high fashion sensibility.

Official images of the New Balance New Balance 1906L “Rich Oak” emerging indicates that a stateside release likely isn’t far away. We’re expecting a $160 MSRP once this pair materializes. In the meantime, enjoy the official images included just below.
