This 2002 original returns in August.

First Look At The Air Jordan 17 Low “UNC”

Updated March 29th, 2024: The Air Jordan 17 “UNC” pictured is in fact a sample pair produced in 2023. Despite that, the shoes may still be an indicator of a later 2024 release, and what we can expect from the retro if/when it materializes. Our original coverage remains intact below.

Air Jordan 17 fans rejoice. Often relegated to the shadows in favor of I through XIV models, Jordan’s footwear of the post-Chicago Bulls era are getting some newfound attention in 2024. As a part of SNKRS’ Jordan Summer Preview, the “Lightning” colorway was tipped off for a drop at the end of May. Now, an additional OG colorway is set to join them for its first ever retro with the return of the Air Jordan 17 Low “UNC.”

The Air Jordan 17 blended a myriad of MJ’s off-the-court dabbles and hobbies — specifically golf and jazz. The outsole traction pattern is set to mimic the arrangement of a golf green, whereas the suitcase that the AJ17 came housed in as well as the detailing by the lace collar were inspired by hard-shell instrument cases and musical notes.

The Air Jordan 17 Low, however, simplified the look and did not come packaged inside the suitcase (only the Mid versions featured the case). For 2024, however, Jordan Brand is choosing to bring back the unforgettable packaging detail as made evident by Jordan Brand during it’s preview of the Air Jordan 17 Low “Lightning”, and it’s likely that they’ll arrive with the branded suitcase as well.

The Air Jordan 17 Low “UNC” is currently being reported for an August 28th release, carrying an MSRP of a whopping $300. You can find the rest of our initial looks included just ahead.

Elsewhere on the 2024 Jordan Release Dates calendar, the Air Jordan 4 “Vivid Sulfur” releases towards the top of April.
