Ross Dwyer The Nike ISPA line was created for the modern-day commuter, and is all about four things: improvising, scavenging, protecting, and adapting. The models we’ve seen from the line so far like the React WR and the Air Max 270 SP SOE all take this ethos quite literally, but none before have taken it quite as close to heart as this new high-top Vapormax Flyknit Gator. Arriving in both a sporty black/grey and a space-age silver, each colorway offers a removable mid-shin height water-resistant shroud with a full-foot zipper. This is ideal for any and all rainy day urban excursions, as a wet morning can be quite a trial in a city like New York or Chicago where most commuters rely on public transit and good old fashioned walking instead of driving. Of course, there’s plenty of bold embellishments as well: the very top of the collar offers a bold Nike text hit, while the sizeable midfoot Swoosh boasts a dotted pattern for texture. Underneath this detachable gator sits a full-on Vapormax Flyknit 3 that can be worn sans shroud if the weather is tranquil. It’s rare that a Vapormax sole is the least noticeable thing on a pair of Nike shoes, but that just goes to show just how striking this new design truly is.
