Nike’s 2018 BETRUE collection has been officially unveiled, revealing four outstanding running silhouettes anchored by the color lavender, one of the oldest symbolic references in LBGTQ culture. Each of the four silhouettes, the Vapormax Plus, Air Max 270, Epic React, and Zoom Fly, features its own spin on the soft palette, but also featuring in this year’s collection is a triangular symbol – one that has its own complex past in LBGTQ history. Originally used to identify LGBTQ individuals during World War II, the symbol was claimed by pro-gay activists and was later adopted by the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP) in their memorable 1980s-era “Silence=Death” campaign.
The entire Nike BETRUE 2018 collection is set to release on Nike.com and select retailers beginning on June 6th. Alongside the shoes, Nike will drop matching tees, socks, hats, and hip pack.
