Nike Kobe 6

The Nike Kobe 6 is Kobe Bryant’s sixth signature shoe under the Swoosh. It debuted during the 2010-2011 season and released throughout 2011. Though it still utilized the FlyWire anchoring that defined its two predecessors, designer Eric Avar intentionally deemphasized the tech aesthetically, giving way to the “island” scales on the upper that have become its defining feature in the years since.

Kobe 6 “Grinch” And The Model’s On-Court Popularity

The model was incredibly well-received during its original run, but it’s safe to say that its entrance into the Protro program catapulted its notoriety and success to all-time highs. No release is more significant (or infamous) than the “Grinch.” The first colorway of the shoe to hit the market during its original run, a retro for the “Grinch’s” 10th anniversary jumped out to an instant sell-out. The shoe now commands nearly four digits on the grey market. Nike would build upon Bryant’s Christmas empire with the release of the “Reverse Grinch” in 2023 and a set of Kobe Cleats in 2024.

Since re-entering the market, the Kobe 6 has become among the most popular choices for professional hoopers, a staple of everyone from Jalen Brunson to Caitlin Clark. That continues to give way to some awe-inspiring PE styles cranked out on the silhouette, only furthering the legend of Bryant’s sixth signature.

Recent And Upcoming Protro Releases

After ruling 2021 with the release of the “White Del Sol” and “All-Star” colorways, the Kobe 6 Protro took a multi-year hiatus. That break came to a close with the aforementioned “Reverse Grinch.” Soon after, the Kobe 6 “Italian Camo” would prove that release wasn’t a one-off, and the model is expected to be a centerpiece of Nike Basketball strategy in 2025. Things kick off with the Kobe 6 “All-Star 2.0” in February before the “Dodgers” and “Total Orange” releases drop during Summer and Fall, respectively.
