Nike ACG
Nike ACG refers to the “All Climate Gear” line for the sneaker giant, a side of their performance gear aimed towards outdoors wear with an emphasis on breathability, waterproofing and wind-resistance.
Precursors to Nike ACG stretch far into the company’s history, but the line began in earnest in 1989. Bringing iconic Beaverton designers like Tinker Hatfield and Peter Fogg into the mix, the imprint’s mission statement was to blend on-trend design principles with an unwavering commitment to performance. Launching with silhouettes like the Nike Air Terra and Nike Air Mowabb, the ACG line became one of the signature aspects of Oregon’s brand strategy in the 1990s.
The success of the line and the long string of models it spawned created a true cult following that lasts to this day. Silhouettes and colorways are frequently revived, referenced and revisited in the modern canon, from the in-line return of the Nike ACG Rufus, to Devin Booker referencing the Air Mowabb with a “Twine” Book 1 PE, to the Nike ACG x Comme des Garcons Mountain Fly 2.. The line has received a ton of attention in recent years, with 2024 continuing a trend of 90s era models being revitalized into the mainline Nike catalog.
