Thirty-year-old Kide Baharudin, who recently won the Vans Asia Custom Culture contest, has just brought Malaysia to Slip-On and Authentic form with a new collection with the “Off The Wall” brand.
Built upon “Classic White/Marshmallow” iterations of each Vans icon, Baharudin’s contribution to the California institution’s rich footwear history places the lively coastal villages of his hometown Kuala Pilah in Negri Sembilan front and center. Hand-painted locals, buildings and palm trees capture the lifestyles Baharudin’s parents experienced as children in the 1950s and 1960s. A blue, yellow, green and pink palette brings life to the two themes sprawled across between Slip-On and Authentic. And though each pair features a different type of town-scene, both are constructed with study canvas uppers (which include collapsible heels), upgraded UltraCush insoles and classic rubber waffle outsoles.
