Miami-based sneaker boutique, SoleFly’s collaboration with Jordan Brand on the Air Jordan 17 Low has been in the works for many months now. When it initially surfaced back in June of last year, it was not a confirmed collaboration, and was thought to just be another version of the 17 Low “Lightning” that MJ wore during hist stint with the Wizards. Along its journey to retail, the boutique created special edition customized pairs for some well-known names across many industries, the likes of DJ Khaled, Mark Wahlberg, Drake and even Asahd Khaled – with each recipient having their name embroidered on the black ankle collar. A move like this only increased the already existent energy surrounding this illustrious collaboration.
This time around, SoleFly mixes things up a bit, giving that boisterous yellow hue some more real estate on the upper of this selection, while adding its own branding to the midsole as well as the heel tab of the left sneaker. Fans of this distinguished collection with be able to try their luck at picking up a pair for retailer during the chaotic All-Star Weekend festivities, with a specific release taking place on February 16th.
Update 2/10/2018:
Solefly release a statement on this collaboration:
“Selected as a starter in the 2002 NBA All-Star game, it being his 13th All-Star appearance, Michael Jordan played in the Lightning 17 lows. The shoe was special in it’s own way, with PEs uniquely having corresponding player names stitched on the sock of the shoes. In pushing the envelope once again, SoleFly decided to put a reverse twist on the Lightning color scheme, featuring the SoleFly signature and Ostrich leather upper, individually numbered and limited to just 2,300 pairs worldwide. In commemoration of the stitched name feature on PEs, all friends and family pairs of the SoleFly x Jordan Reverse Lightning 17 Lows were personalized with names stitched on.”
