Nike’s soccer inspiration has been lingering even on their basketball silhouettes as of late. Notice how prominent the enlarged toebox Swoosh is these days on shoes like the LeBron 12 Low and the KD 7? They have the Nike FB line to thank for it, and Nike got even more use out of the soccer inspiration with the Nike Free Hypervenom. Taking the cleat that dominated the World Cup last summer, Nike outfitted the silhouette with a bolstered mesh upper for added breathability for the warmer months while the Nike Free 5.0 outsole adds a lightweight flexibility that should make both the Hypervenom Mid and Hypervenom Low a go to throughout the summer. In an odd move, the latest “Snake Eyes” collection features the Mamba inspiration on the tongue but there’s no synthetic snakeskin texture found anywhere. Instead, a unique 3M print arrives on the solid heel to match snakeskin stripes in the most subtle way possible, as an olive green rests on the grey pair and a solid black is almost camouflaged on the lowtop.
