As it turns out, the upcoming Air Jordan 9 with an olive green midsole and lining is actually a tribute to the legendary “Jumpman” statue that proudly sits outside the United Center in Chicago. Why the 9s? Well, the statue depicts the aerial MJ wearing that specific Air Jordan shoe. While the tone of green is arguably a mismatch of the dark copper seen in the statue, Jordan Brand shrewdly added the date in which the statue was unveiled – November 1st, 1994. While the concept itself is impressive, the execution could’ve gone an extra step, don’t you think? The shoes are rumored for an August release, but we’ll provide confirmed info when it arrives.
