Under Armour continues its relentless push into the footwear with the unveiling of the Cam Newton Highlight Trainer. This new signature sneaker, designed by UA Footwear Creative Director Dave Dombrow, cohesively meshes various elements of Cam’s personal tastes and combines them with design cues never before seen on conventional Trainer shoes. The pigskin suede toe-box, the low-pro construction, and the high-rising skin-tight ankle collar (which folds down for a more casual appeal) are just some of the unique details that make the Cam Newton Highlight unlike anything out there in the market, and Sneaker News was fortunate enough to preview the shoes first-hand. The Cam Newton Highlight will release on December 8th in the ‘Panthers’ and ‘Atlanta Hawks’ colorways at the retail price of $150, so check out the detailed breakdown as well as additional exclusive images below and give us your thoughts on the latest innovation from Under Armour’s flourishing footwear collection.
The design on the ankle-collar is a direct inspiration from the luxury seats on a Ferrari supercar.
The Cam Newton logo on the tongue is strategically placed so it is visible when wearing jeans or long pants.
The heel-counter splits at the spine, allowing for a more liberal range of motion.
The shoes use Micro G cushioning as well as carbon-fiber composite on the heel and midfoot – a direct inspiration from the Bugatti Veyron.
The Red/Black/Yellow colorway represents the Atlanta Hawks during the Dominique Wilkins era. Cam Newton is originally from Atlanta.
The toe-box features a luxurious pigskin suede not seen on other athletic Trainers.
The shoes will be boxed in this chrome shoebox.
Cam Newton’s signature is located on the upper right hand corner of the primary face of the shoebox.
