The sneakerhead and streetwear scenes have seen their landscapes so radically altered by the internet (more specifically, the proliferation of broadband, ‘web 2.0’ and its accompanying blogosphere), one need only look back a decade to see how vast the changes have been. Less than ten years ago, Cam’Ron enhanced his marketability by reclaiming colors that’d previously been discarded as ‘feminine’, and just eight years after the Purple Haze album, “Everything is purple (swag).” Perhaps Cam remembered that 2Pac in that epic purple Karl Kani denim suit from back in the day, but it doesn’t take an international superstar to recall that this is also a color strongly associated with royalty. Fitting, then, to see a Nike Air Force 1 Low dipped in Court Purple on its 30th anniversary year, a sufficiently unisex celebratory gesture in which you’ll see plenty of both male and female sneakerheads now that they’re arriving at select Nike Sportswear stockists like Oneness.
