Ever since Air Max came into the picture in 1987 with the Air Max 1, Nike has been dedicated to perfecting the sensation of walking on Air. This obsessive mission spawned a legacy in footwear performance innovation and street-cred that has never been nor will ever be rivaled, and the newly launched Air Max Dn proves that Nike isn’t following a trend — it IS the trend.
Nearly four decades later, the visual expression of Air Max remains as one of the most striking design elements in footwear fashion. Whether you rock baggy sweats and let the Air bubble barely peek out, or you prefer the athleisure focus with tights/joggers and put the shoe on full display, nothing quite hits like the look of ample cushioning below your feet. That’s why the unreal Air unit on the Dn is hitting the mark for sneaker fanatics new and old, because the comfort is backing up the looks.
With its roots in 1998’s, Tuned Air, Nike’s Dynamic Air proposition is a result of careful engineering. If you recall, the Air Max Plus was prized for a specifically tuned Air bag that featured uneven pressure chambers to counter pronation. Similar principles are applied to the Dn’s four chambers to create an uber-comfortable ride. The rear two tubes feature 5PSI for softer landing on heel-strikes, while the front two tubes get pumped with 15PSI for firmer support. The Air also moves freely within each of those pairings to create a unique support system for each specific gait.
Officially unveiled earlier in February in two outstanding launch colorways as well as a limited edition collaboration drop with Supreme, the Air Max Dn is ready to etch in the next chapter of Air history, and below we highlight some of our favorite colorways that are available now at Nike. Are you ready to feel the unreal?
The Air Max Dn officially debuted in two carefully select color palettes by way of “All Day” and “All Night” . With its connections to 1998’s Air Max Plus, both of those launch deliveries reflect the “Sunset” and “Sunrise” OGs from 1998, mirroring that twenty-four hour comfort that both models promise.
The All Day channels a rich gradient of colors that mimic the hues of dusk; rise up early, grind all day, and rest when needed. The All Night lets you shift into stealth mode for those evening crawls that can last into the early hours of the morning. Both are anchored by the stylish mid-foot piece that feature a vivid pink Swoosh logo cased into a lenticular base. Matching that hot pink touch are the four Air Max Dn tubes — the real centerpiece of the shoe.
The Air Max Dn “All Night” is available now for mens, womens, and kids. Fun fact: although the colorways are the same, there’s an easy way to tell the difference between the mens and womens pairs by looking at the frame of the mid-foot. Mens pairs have a matte finish, whereas the womens pairs have a glossy finish.
As far as must-have colorways go, few can contend with the simple yet effective pairing of white and black. Nike applied this trending style on the Air Max Dn, which due to its design leverages that high-contrast colorway in a way that few other models can.
The upper portion of the Air Max Dn is flooded in black, matching the tongue and interior lining. The raised texture creates its own skin layer, with variable dashes creating a warped aesthetic that adds dimension to the all-black water. Separated at the mudguard, the arctic white carries into the injected phylon sole that houses the translucent Dn Air tubes.
This must-have colorway is available in full family sizes via the above links.
As you can, Nike wants EVERYONE to Feel The Unreal. A variety of eye-catchers partook in the global launch of the newest Air Max hit, each checking off a significant box that speaks directly to the Air Max fanatics and those who want to explore new territories of footwear.
The Volt/Silver easily nods to the year 1995 and arguably the most forward-thinking Air Maxes in history. These are a no-brainer for anyone looking to add another onto the Air Max stack in the closet. The “Blud Void” offers that sport-forward look that can not only fit that streetwear look, but can also be the go-to choice for those personal fitness goals. Finally, women receive a White/Pure Platinum – an angelic look with an edge.
All three styles are available right now on Nike.com.
