Toshikazu Kayano made history when he designed the first ASICS GEL-Kayano sneaker, lending his surname to a performance-running footwear line in 1993. Decades later, the series has spawned 30 different stability-focused products, with several silhouettes within the range finding a second life as lifestyle sneakers.
For the line’s 30th anniversary, ASICS has decided to take a trip down memory lane, returning with the GEL-Kayano Legacy. A special offering, the sneaker couples the GEL-Kayano 14‘s sole unit with various materials, badges, and other componentry taken from different eras of the GEL-Kayano timeline. The Japanese institution has introduced the hybrid model with two color schemes – one being a “Pure Silver” option. Different shades of silver across the upper, cushioning, and traction reference the series’ frequent use of the metallic tone, which is also paired with 3M reflective accents to shine the light on the GEL-Kayano’s technical origins.
Enjoy official photos of the pair ahead, and anticipate an asics.com launch soon. The pair is priced at $200 USD.
