Sandy Liang is no stranger to the world of sneakers, having reimagined several of Vans’ most beloved models. The New York-based designer is, however, new to Salomon‘s extended family, joining the footwear brand for their very first female-led partnership.
“Salomon and Sandy Liang are both brands that thrive off of our own history,” Sandy Liang comments. “We are not trend-driven and are committed to making great products, figuring out who we are and designing for the moment we are in.”
For her debut collaboration with Salomon, Liang is putting her spin on two different styles: the RX Moc 3.0 and the XT-6 Expanse. The latter — which is clothed in “Cradle Pink,” “Jolly Green,” and “Black” — is designed for those that would comfortably run the trail in a dress. Alongside its bright, pastel-dominant colorway, the pair features a 90s-inspired, anime-styled flower along its insoles as well as “Sandy Liang” branding down its tongue. Said floral detailing appears three-fold along the accompanying Moc, fronting the shoe’s more tonally understated, sheer mesh-constructed build.
“There is a sportiness to Salomon that resonates with me,” Liang continues. “Growing up in the 90s, I loved wearing sneakers. I incorporated this into my design process, tapping into nostalgic colorways and details like the anime inspired flower decal seen throughout the capsule.”
The Sandy Liang x Salomon capsule will be available in unisex sizes on April 28th exclusively at the Sandy Liang NYC store and online webstore. A wider, global launch will follow on May 5th via Salomon.com and select retailers.
