Over the last 40 years, Bruce Kilgore’s Nike Air Force 1 has dressed up in countless ensembles, with some touching on cultural aspects once ignored in the world of sneakers. Case in point?: The “We Are Familia” style.
While not the first time the creation from 1982 dons an outfit inspired by and for the Spanish-speaking world, the newly-surfaced look indulges in a refreshing mismatched arrangement that speaks to the diversity of family, the sneakers’ central theme. Suede and knit panels come together across the upper, rocking a rich brown tone that also takes over the oft-imitated sole units underfoot. Chenille material arrives via the disparate profile swooshes, touching on some of the hues introduced by the “We Are Familia” branding on the left shoe’s tongue label, as well as the taqueria-appropriate lettering on the sock-liners. Lastly, the Air Force 1 Low‘s packaging is reworked under the lens of family.
No firm Nike SNKRS launch date has been confirmed by the brand, but that’s likely to change as September and November inch closer to coincide with either Hispanic Heritage Month or Day of the Dead. In the meantime, enjoy official images of the pair in kids’ sizes ahead.
