In 2015, adidas set out on an ambitious journey: to replace all virgin polyester with a recycled equal by 2024. The brand’s “Made To Be Remade” (MTBR) initiative has played a crucial role in this effort, with an NMD S1 proposition joining the fight.
While new to the NMD series that helped popularize Boost-cushioning in the mid-2010s, the newly-surfaced silhouette has quickly become one of the brand’s more exciting products, as it combines future-forward design cues with comfort and quality. Constructed some Primeknit and other materials, the shoe naturally indulges in some of the up-cycled materials gathered by the German sportswear behemoth, but it’s upcoming “Core Black”-colored, “Made To Be Remade” release delivers an entirely circular lifecycle for the pair: recycled materials are sourced – without sacrificing performance – to create a product that adidas promises to take back in order to make new product. The NMD S1 arrives with aa QR code that wearers can scan in order to learn about how to join in on the company’s sustainable future, which extends to apparel and other items, too.
Enjoy official images of the pair ahead, as you wait to secure your pair from the adidas CONFIRMED app on Thursday, May 19th, for $220 USD.
