For the better part of the past few weeks, the exorbitantly wealthy have been in a bidding war for the 200 Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1s on offer at Sotheby’s. And despite the wide range of sizes available, no two lots ended at the same price, with pairs selling for $352,800 USD at the high end and $75,600 at the low.
Why exactly the price disparity? Well, we can only guess. The most expensive, which is a female-friendly Size 5, also happens to be Lot #1, something certain collectors are sure to value quite highly. This is not the end all be all, however, as Lot 200 (a Size 18) on the opposite end is nowhere close to the cheapest. It’s likely exclusivity play a bigger factor, as both of the aforementioned are the only lots available in their respective sizes.
If we take a lot at the numerous Size 7s and 7.5s, each has sold for a relatively low price. Due to the excess of quantity, the demand fell as a result, so the extremely large difference in price is well within expectations. Interestingly, though, the Size 9 to 10 range — which proffers similar numbers — seems to have closed at a much higher price on average, indicating that the core demographic is more male-dominant.
