sacai’s long-standing partnership with Nike has produced some of the best collaborative silhouettes of the past few years – the LDWaffle, the Vaporwaffle, and even the drove of rebuilt Blazers. And later this year, the Japanese label will add to the lineage with a similarly reimagined Cortez.
The upper, much like the LDWaffle, is relatively faithful to the original silhouette, built with its usual smooth leathers and grey suede eyestays/toe. Even the Swoosh is kept intact, though its paired with an additional, printed twin a à la the Vaporwaffle. As for the sole, which continues Chitose Abe’s penchant for oversized bases, it sits aesthetically between the two aforementioned shoes, while offering a sizable but manageable bulk, a protruding heel piece, and new cushioning towards the forefoot.
Enjoy a first look at the sacai x Nike Cortez here. It’s possible more images will surface once the brand lets walk their AW22 collection.
