The Most Sustainable Nike Air Force 1 Low Yet Features Woven Cork

Since at least 2019, NIKE, Inc. has been committed to eliminating its carbon footprint through a number of ways detailed in its “Move to Zero” initiative. Over the last three years, the North American sportswear behemoth has made strides in sustainability work within its manufacturing, corporate and retail presences, but nothing has been celebrated quite like the resulting footwear.

Propositions under the Nike Space Hippie umbrella have been direct ties to the company’s newfound commitment, but established silhouettes like the Nike Air Force 1 Low have also championed the Swoosh’s eco-conscious efforts. Crater Foam and Nike Grind, two materials introduced in the aforementioned “Trash Transformed”-related line, have appeared on Bruce Kilgore’s iconic design, but the brand hasn’t stopped exploring ways to increase its sneaker’s sustainability. A newly-surfaced pair showcases an all-new approach to the Air Force 1: animal-free, vegan leather produced from pineapple leaves seems to cover much of the paneling at the shoes’ forefoot; overlays along the tongue, profile swooshes and Achilles’ heel seem to follow suit. Multi-colored fabric works in unison with recycled cork strips from mid-foot to heel to deliver a woven build reminiscent of the Nike Air Woven first seen in the year 2000. While no official details about the shoe have been revealed, it’s likely the sneakers are yet another collaboration between Nike and Ananas Anam Ltd., creator of Piñatex. Lastly, midsoles and outsoles also join the eco-friendly party, reveling in their own use of up-cycled, partly natural materials.

Enjoy a very early look at the pair here below, and anticipate Nike.com release details as 2022 gets underway.
