The answer lies in the ’80s basketball aesthetic these now trendy sneakers embody. As vintage looks continue to dominate the sneaker scene, adidas hopes to build its audience by delivering another b-ball silhouette—the adidas Top Ten Low.
As with plenty of retro basketball propositions, the pair finds itself dressed in smooth leathers. Scarlet dominates the sides while a stark white toe box—yet again—aligns with throwback styles. Similar to the adidas Superstar and other classics, three leather stripes with jagged edges are emblazoned on the sides. More branding is found on the tongue, but in a more creative fashioning. A cartoonish graphic of a basketball hoop with the text “TOP TEN” printed above in a playful font further alludes to the funky shapes that resonate with graphic design in the 1980s. To complete the look, a typical white midsole is used, but red is applied underfoot to balance out the two shades.
