Inspired by the barefoot runners of Kenya, the Nike Air Rift from the 1990s has found new life among today’s young generation of consumers. Due in no small part to the ballet shoe trend – which Nike has embraced through chic ribbon styles – the tabi-toe’d retro runner is a TikTok darling and popular buy among women unafraid to ruffle feathers through footwear. In continuing to explore new makeups, the Air Rift has now surfaced in a new style featuring intricate botanical-inspired stitching.
Official images reveal a “Team Red” leather colorway featuring different sections of ferns throughout, namely on the tabi toe area, medial leather panel, and tip of the elastic forefoot strap. Cursive “Nike” text appears on the heel strap, while a Swoosh appears just atop the model’s controversial split toe. This is just of of several different identities the Air Rift has assumed in recent months, preceded by ballet-inspired pairs, suede and mesh looks, and even an all-black style featuring buckled straps.
The Nike Air Rift “Botanical” is expected to land Fall 2025 in women’s sizing, likely for around $140. Expect a release to occur via nike.com and boutiques.
