Kevin Durant is the one and only bridge between the Supersonics and the modern NBA – until the league finally gives Seattle an expansion team, that is (here’s hoping). While KD spent only his rookie season in Seattle before relocating to OKC, he’s gone on record saying he’d love to be part of the Sonics’ revival if and when they come back following his retirement; all more reason as to why Seattleites should be optimistic. For our purposes, KD’s continued love for the Rain City shines through on this upcoming Nike KD 18 dropping July 22nd.
Here we have a black colorway featuring yellow detailing on the Terra Humara-inspired cage; a low-key yet meaningful incorporation of the Sonics team colors. It’s the more subtle details that make these truly stand out, led by stitched text reading “6/28/07” for KD’s draft day on the inner tongue. Synthetic raindrops are applied to the cage, and the insoles feature a mountain graphic that can only be likened to Seattle’s iconic Mt. Rainier. Importantly, the sneaker emerges just weeks after Nike dropped a hyper-limited “Seattle Sonics” KD 18 during Durant’s appearance at Fanatics Fest.
The Nike KD 18 “Rain City” drops July 22nd via nike.com and retailers, priced at $155. See official images below and hit our Sneaker Release Dates page to browse other upcoming hoops shoes.
