Edison Chen’s CLOT Reimagines The adidas Stan Smith With An Espadrille

Hitting the ground running in the truest sense, CLOT and Edison Chen wasting no time shooting up the ranking of Three Stripes power players. It’s been a deluge of product since the ink dried, the Hong Kong-born designer letting loose relentless reimaginings of adidas staples, primarily centered on the Gazelle and Superstar to date. A new icon is beginning to gain traction in the partnership, exemplified anew by the CLOT x adidas Stan Smith Espadrille.

Coming hot off the heels of the beaded Stan Smith that Chen just checked off, the two shoes featured here may arguably be his biggest Swing yet, merging the tennis classic with espadrille footwear. To be sure, it’s familiar territory in the CLOT canon, having already graced the Gazelle with this treatment, but the visible joinery and traditional makeup of the sole still brings an unexpected, storied atmosphere to the well-established silhouette.

Whereas the white/green colorway pays homage to the Stan Smith‘s vaunted legacy by keeping to familiar palette, the green-on-black takes a more experimental approach, pinning tufted shag suede on the heel cup. Overall, the capsule continues the “worlds collide” animus at the heart of Edison Chen x CLOT; East meets West, old vs. new, sport vs. fashion.

Of course, while a bit peripheral to our purview, Edison Chen ensures a range of associated apparel and accessories that spin off the tennis club concept, looping in knitted polos, frayed shorts, and chenille totes among a sprawling collection. All of this, including the two CLOT x adidas Stan Smith Espadrille pairs, release via the CONFIRMED app on July 12th. The shoes each clock in with a $140 retail price.
