Despite the year just barely beyond the half-way point and another six months of sneakers already looming, Nigel Sylvester’s Air Jordan 4 “Brick by Brick” is already being crowned as the “Shoe Of The Year”. While that’ll be a contentious discussion as we near the year’s end, the Queens native is stepping on the gas by announcing his next project with Jordan Brand titled “Better With Time.”
The name of this next collaboration signals growth and maturity and all the perspective-widening views that come with experience. In the context of sneakers, “Better With Time” alludes to some good ‘ol aging. It’s true that some, if not all, sneakers look better when they’ve been put to use. Deep creases, dingy bottoms, heel-drag, and scuff marks are all battle scars that tell a unique story that no deadstock pair will ever know.
While it’s not clear what shoe Sylvester is pointing to, it is possible that this is a teaser for the upcoming Air Jordan 1 Low OG “Nitro”, a low-top version of a sample colorway that emerged years ago. Sleuths will even point out that Nigel is rocking a pair of Air Jordan 1s in the backdrop image on the billboard posted in NYC’s 34th St., further drawing that connection.
