NIKE V5 RNR The $90 Tech Runner That Will Take You Everywhere

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly when the tech runner movement went global, or why it even happened in the first place. We do know that Nike deserves credit for planting the early seeds that eventually sprouted roots strong enough to support an entire new category.

The one Nike shoe that comes to mind is the Vomero 5, a now-ubiquitous do-it-all sneaker that rose to prominence seemingly overnight. It has served as mighty source material for modern offerings like the V2K Run and the V5 RNR, both of which have done well after leaving the home nest.

Here, we’re focusing on the latter. In the name itself, the V5 RNR doesn’t hide its origin, but there’s no question that it’s offering something new.

HISTORY

Before we get into the V5 RNR, we need to turn the clock back to 2018. Long before the Zoom Vomero 5 and its derivative models became a household name in the post-lockdown era, it was the IYKYK darling among sneaker fashionistas, hitting the pavement of Fashion Weeks years before it became everyone’s favorite airport terminal shoe.

The Swoosh shrewdly got ahead of the madness by creating the aforementioned V2K Run, a unisex silhouette marked by a chunkier heel and a sleeker profile. As expected, the Swoosh saw success with that model and has now become a mainstay in Nike Sportswear’s seasonal offerings.

Fast forward to 2025 (February to be exact) when Nike unleashed the next in the growing Vomero heritage line. Called the V5 RNR, this refreshed silhouette infuses elements of the Vomero 5 with other Y2K-inspired design touches, all while maintaining the attractive and trendy “tech runner” appeal via the synthetic overlays, breathable mesh, 3D Swoosh logo, and grooved midsole.

Simply put, the shoe is so well-designed that it looks like an OG model.

We know (and you know) the aesthetic is on point, but what makes the V5 RNR a bit of a shocker is that the MSRP clocks in at $90. There are no shortage of colorways either, deeming this part of the exclusive “total package” association.

Metallic overlays in both shiny and matte finishes laid atop soft and plush sport mesh brings the heat, while the all-important all-white and all-black boxes remain checked. It’s hard to not see this model as Nike’s next big smash hit, because there’s really no competing with the V5 RNR in terms of approachable price-point, attractive design, and color options.
