Another grail hits the dust.

The Air Jordan 5 “Tokyo23” Is Releasing Fall 2025 With A Slight Change

Updated May 23rd, 2025: Detailed images of the Air Jordan 5 “Tokyo23” have emerged, revealing the altered yellow outsole at the toe. Jordan Brand chose to bring back this grail with a minor change. A release is expected this Fall 2025 with just 20,000 pairs made.

Updated May 23rd, 2025: The Air Jordan 5 “Tokyo23” is in fact releasing with a minor change that includes a yellow toe-cap. The shoes are limited to 20,000 units. Complex Sneakers initially reported that the shoes were not releasing; they’ve updated their report with information directly from Jordan Brand.

No grail is safe. It seems Jordan Brand is browsing through the most valuable releases on the secondary market and flattening the gap by re-releasing these cherished kicks to the public for a cash grab. Air Jordans are in fact a cultural time capsule; each of these releases mark a moment in time. The Air Jordan 5 “Tokyo23” specifically points the pre-Instagram era of shoe-clout and reseller culture, when real connections were required to secure pairs that launched as regional exclusives.

Noted for its bright yellow upper, this Air Jordan 5 “Tokyo23” was often linked to the Air Jordan 4 “Lightning” in aesthetics, but the Tokyo23 had its own unique backstory. Released in conjunction with the opening of Jordan Tokyo23 retail store in April 2011, this Air Jordan 5 is inspired by the Shibuya Ward and dropped only at retailers in Japan. Pairs have commanded upwards of $5,000, instantly becoming a must-have for anyone with deep pockets and aspirations for building a hot sneaker collection overnight.

According to @zsneakerheadz, the Air Jordan 5 “Tokyo23” will be returning in Fall 2025, with two versions potentially part of the re-issue. Perhaps it’ll be approached like the Undefeated Jordan 4, with one staying loyal to the original design (Jumpman heel logo) and another with the Nike Air. More details to come.
