Up Close With The Tom Sachs x Nike Mars Yard 3.0

The $275 third chapter comes into view.

Up Close With The Tom Sachs x Nike Mars Yard 3.0

It hasn’t been the simplest road to get here, but the Tom Sachs x Nike Mars Yard 3.0 is only becoming more real. Early pairs are beginning to trickle out, allowing for our best look at the model to date.

Originally built to represent the “modern uniform” of the brightest minds (literal rocket scientists, in the case of the 1.0), each step in the Mars Yard legacy has been building off of its predecessors. In the official reveal, Sachs and Nike already clearly spelled out how the 3.0 did so, with various newly bolstered features trumping up the performance aspects of the threequel. Switching to React foam and adding a carbon fiber plate are the key structural additions. Aesthetically, TPU enters the mix via a new toecap and heel clip at the edges of the upper, while a flush, screen-printed Swoosh offsets those bulkier aspects.

As for what these new shots unveil, the most notable is a view of the two interchangeable insoles: one in mesh and one in cork. Atop each, Sachs spells out the ever-eclectic inspirations for the Mars Yard 3.0 spelled out: diagrams depicting the atomic structure of Plutonium and Gold, a broad look at the solar system, and several knot types appear on these interior features. The traditional packaging also reveals official metadata, including the specific color codes for the September 2025 release: “Natural/Sport Red/Maple/Sail/Black.”

Though this will almost assuredly be a sell-out event, coverage of anything relating to the New York artist wouldn’t be complete without acknowledging the enduringly checkered shroud around this release. Given that the misconduct allegations against Sachs were severe enough to result in a complete pause to his Nike relationship, reception to its resumption has been mixed, to say the least. To be fair to Sachs and the Swoosh’s side of things, Nike’s statement on resuming the partnership led with his contrition: “Tom has demonstrated and recommitted to fostering a culture of respect and inclusivity.”

Again, as of this writing, the Tom Sachs x Nike Mars Yard 3.0 is queued up for a September release, checking in at $275. Keep an eye on our Sneaker Release Dates page for further updates as they come. All of the in-hand looks are embedded in the gallery ahead.
