Nike and CDG, adidas and Wales Bonner… Salomon and Maison Margiela? While the latter duo may not be the first that comes to your mind when thinking about the intersection between haute fashion and athletic wear, their sprawling relationship certainly has the catalog to deserve consideration. As they look to bring that partnership into Spring 2025, it’s a combination of the familiar and the brand-new, ushering in new styles of their XT-4 Mule and an entirely novel entrant, the Spectur 2.
This now marks the third time that Margiela has chopped off the back of Salomon’s foremost trail runner, further precedented by other fashion-forward flips like their XT-Mary. It’s still just as attention-grabbing in this application, utilizing palettes of “Ultramine” and “Beige Haze” that should be familiar to Salomon long-times, but the tooling adjustments are well established at this point.
What is notable is the inclusion of the Spectur 2, a mid-range training silhouette aimed at bringing race-day tooling to the everyday runner. Two tonal treatments are on tap in “Sea Foam Green” and pure black, imbuing the silhouette with an elevated atmosphere irrespective of its earnest performance bonafides.
This latest MMG Maison Margiela x Salomon collection releases in two phases: first the “Ultramarine” XT-Mule and black Spectur 2 on April 17th, then the XT-Mule in White/Beige Haze and the Spectur 2 in Sea Foam Green. Catch on-white shots of everything on offer included below.
