The sport of golf is hitting some peak energy thanks to the The Masters closing out a legendary event with the ever-rare Grand Slam achievement by Rory McIlroy. The collective attention of golf-heads goes from Augusta, GA down to Jupiter, FL where Michael Jordan’s private compound known as Grove XXIII played host to the world premiere of the Jordan Air Rev golf shoe.
This newly revealed golf shoe is packed with some fresh design and tech that is unprecedented in the history of Beaverton. It’s the first-ever shoe in Nike/Jordan history to use Air externally; a movable Zoom unit is placed inside a pouch located on the inside of the trail (back) foot to provide appropriate pressure, whereas a Formula23 foam is at the lead (front) foot. The system is customizable depending on the golfer’s left-handed or right-handed stance.
Customizable and modular cushioning systems are certainly not new to Nike/Jordan footwear; dating back to the Air Jordan XXI, and again the early 2010s with the Air Jordan 2011, Air Jordan 2012, we’ve seen a similar approach of personalized fit in performance footwear, although it never really lasted long. However, this is indeed a true first for Air to be used outside the shoe, but concurrently the practicality of this cushioning arrangement is limited to certain sports.
Called the “Flight Lock” system, Jordan Brand touts improved club-head speed and rotational velocity as the foot pushes off the Zoom Air unit.
Additionally, the Jordan Air Rev is free of standard shoelaces thanks to the a dial knob that sits on the tongue, with the cables essentially replacing traditional shoelaces and allowing for easy tightening/loosening. It is essentially a mimic of BOA’s Fit System.
A release is currently expected for May 14th, 2025 for $250; stay tuned to our Jordan Release Dates page for more details.
