Comparing The Nike Air Max 95 OG “Neon” With The Reverse Gradient

Nike partnered with the Museum Of Modern Art for a shock-drop style release of the Air Max 95 inspired by an early sketch by designer Sergio Lozano. This unrealized colorway, which is essentially a flip of the familiar Air Max 95 OG Neon from 1995, released for the first time to the public exclusively on the MoMA Design Store website (it has since sold out). A Shock Drop release is expected in NYC on Thursday, April 10th. Outside of that, there is no known release info.

Sneaker News was able to secure one of the “Reverse Gradient” pairs during a special invite-only event that was held on April 8th at the MoMA Design Store in SoHo NYC (you might’ve seen the in-hand unboxing on our Instagram Reels page). Nike also sent us a pair of the Air Max 95 OG “Neon”, a sneaker that has been well covered and documented since the beginning of the year. So, we decided to show you a quick side-by-side comparison to show just how different the two really are.

Here’s what’s obviously different: the color palette may be identical, but Nike turned the gradient completely upside down, starting with a dark grey and trickling down to a white into the midsole. A closer inspection reveals that the “Reverse Gradient” edition uses a hairy suede on the upper, whereas the OG Neons make use of a smooth-textured suede. The Reverse also does not feature the PSI markings on the bottoms, and the shoe-box is not the classic Air Max version inspired by the 1996 packaging, but rather the standard black shoebox reserved for premium Nike Sportswear drops. Finally, the MSRP for this pair is $190, whereas the OG Neon and other Air Max 95 OG styles are $180.

As of the publishing of this article, there is no known future release for the Reverse Gradient Air Max 95 outside the Shock Drop on April 10th. The Air Max 95 OG “Neon”, however, is scheduled for a global drop on SNKRS and select retailers on April 18th, 2025 for $180.
