The New Balance 1000 was one of the bigger success stories of 2024, with the retro “dad shoe” achieving success thanks in part to a rotating window of strong collaborations. Now joining familiar names like Joe Freshgoods, Aimé Leon Dore, and CNCPTS in that realm is Japanese streetwear label BEAMS, set to launch their effort in April.
Taken in gritty all-black makeup, the collaboration stands out with different materials across the left and right shoes. The left features a mesh base and suede overlays, while the right goes in an entirely different direction with standard and patent leather. Given the New Balance 1000 doesn’t necessarily adhere to one material build, the decision does well the flex the model’s range. Black and white New Balance logos dot the left and right shoes, respectively, while reflective rope laces add a bit of flash.
BEAMS and New Balance are hardly strangers to one another, with the two parties typically convening on at least one project a year. Perhaps the most notable came in 2022; a three-way effort with Paperboy Paris on the New Balance 1500.
Back to the sneaker at hand, the BEAMS x New Balance 1000 pre-releases at the BEAMS Los Angeles Pop-Up (620 Imperial Street) on April 10th. A wider release via BEAMS and New Balance online channels is expected to occur later this month.
