The “special makeup” / retailer exclusive has become a frequent tool in New Balance’s arsenal. Much the same way as other brands deploy the strategy, it allows for the Boston giant to carve out mid-tier exclusivity for certain looks, capitalizing on that space between red carpet collaboration and widely accessible GR. California’s Shoe Palace is the latest to enter the ring, issuing an ultra-sleek New Balance 9060 with “Cube” branding.

Indeed, our draw for this pair rests with the blueprint-like New Balance logo that rests on the insole, but likely if you let the brand tell it, it’s more an indication of the overriding theme than the main event. Switch your focus to the upper where you’ll spot polygonal knit running throughout the pair’s base layer, one of a few novel details that Shoe Palace brings to the table. 3M materials capping off the top half of the overlays is the other, a nocturnal final flourish that perfectly accents the overriding stealthy arrangement on hand.
