Easily deserving of the moniker “modern classic,” the Air Jordan 1 “Shattered Backboard” was included in the first batch of leaks last year that cemented the 2025 Jordan Releases slate as one for the books. Dusted off and christened during the shoe’s 10th anniversary, in-hand images of the coveted colorway have just surfaced — and it would appear that the hype was entirely warranted.
The black and orange scheme appears in a one-to-one replication for the 2025 edition, reprising one of the first to utilize the color-blocking to which the “Bred Toe” would eventually lend its name. However, given the reverence Jordan aficionados treat the shoe with and the Jumpman’s clear eye towards keeping things as close to the OG as possible for this year, that isn’t a major surprise.
What’s unexpected is that the Jordan Brand team has revitalized the materials used in the first edition, truly the aspect of this shoe that sent it over the top. The special edition insoles, hitting on that fated 1985 Nike exhibition game, also stick around. Plush tumbled leather utilized throughout the collar, toe-box, quarter, and overlays transformed what was a well-accepted make-up of the AJ1 into one of the most coveted general releases of the 2010s. Reprising those touches certainly has our attention, and if wider audiences share the same sentiments, this becomes a can’t-miss retro release in a year already chock full of them.
As of this writing, the Air Jordan 1 “Shattered Backboard” is queued up for a July 12th release, retailing for $180. Catch the full scope of first look images included below and keep our Jordan Release Dates page handy for further updates on this edition as its launch nears.
