Jakob Werner, better know as @jwstudios, is exactly the kind of sneaker customizer you hope brands link up with for special projects. Scroll through his Instagram page and you’ll find myriad concepts come to life, all of which are inspired, unique, and seemingly met with top-tier craftsmanship. If you’ve already been sold on the quality of Werner’s customs, we have good news to share. In partnership with Mizuno, JW Studios is coming out with a dyed take on the brand’s MXR tech runner.
The JW Studios x Mizuno MXR “Kakishibu” is made with and named after a traditional Japanese craftsmanship process using natural dye derived from fermented persimmon fruit. Attention-grabbing yellow appears on the midsole and outermost paneling, giving way to gold underlays and more pale mesh base.
On top of the shoe’s unique color touches, Werner applies chain stitching to the lateral and medial underlays around the toe box. Unique fabric laces are included to match, and moreover, brown fabric made from fermented persimmons makes up the tongue loop and pull tab.
Limited quantities of the JW Studios x Mizuno MXR “Kakishibu” will be given away via Google Form here, with the event running until 1:00 PM EST on April 6th. Winners will be chosen by random draw on April 7th, and the sneakers will be shipped out from Europe the following day.
