The Nike Air Max Plus Channels The OG On Air Max Day

The Swoosh reaches back with the modern icon.

The Nike Air Max Plus Channels The OG On Air Max Day

The Nike Air Max 1, especially in its its original colorways, is Promethean figure in the Air Max line — the one you can trace all of its industry-shifting success back to. It’s no surprise that if you look back at March 26th’s previous, the brand holiday celebrations are lined with references and retros of the “Sport Red.” While the 2025 efforts remain centered around the Air Max DN8, it’s a fitting moment for another tribute to emerge as the Air Max Plus “Sport Red” crops up in official images.

From first glance, the resemblance is uncanny, but the differing composition between the AM1 and AMP require some creative applications to recreate the OG. Shifting to a tight-knit fabric mesh is likely the most noteworthy, but the shoe does a good job of splitting the difference between the two models with a glossy red mudguard and the requisite ombre notes branching up the palm-tree-inspired TPU. Utilizing more gradients on the midfoot shank delivers another old-meets-new combination, while pops of light grey through the eyelets and sock-liner round out this reinterpretation.

The Nike Air Max Plus “Sport Red” will likely hit Nike.com in the near future, checking in at $180 upon arrival. Check in to our Sneaker Release Dates page periodically over that span for any further updates on this colorway. Otherwise, get a sense of what we’ll receive via the official images below.
