The following was published on March 23rd, 2025:
Nike’s exploration of the world of Low Poly video games has landed on perhaps the most iconic of the genre; the revolutionary GoldenEye 007 for the N64 console has inspired the next colorway of the retro-modded Air Max 1, calling out a fan-favorite un-lockable cheat code.
For the uninformed, GoldenEye 007 is the iconic first-person shooter game developed in 1997 for the Nintendo64 gaming system, based on the 1995 James Bond film starring Pierce Brosnan. The simple black and white is an homage to Bond’s signature black/white tuxedo, while the gold nods to the game’s most powerful and mythical weapon — the Golden Gun.
The moniker “Big Head Mode” is specifically a nod to the un-lockable cheat in the game in which all the characters are transformed with giant, oversized heads.
N64’s GoldenEye has grown to become a cult-smash hit, even with its primitive graphics compared to the advanced, realistic engines that power modern video games. Most of all, this game is responsible for what many call a banger of a soundtrack, specifically for the game’s Pause menu.
The Air Max 1 Low Poly is expected to launch Summer 2025 for $160; currently, it is available as a Cosmetic on Fortnite.
For more pressing sneaker updates, Nike will drop the Air Max 1 “Big Head Origins” inspired by Donkey Kong Country on Air Max Day.
