It’s “free Rocky” no more. The Harlem multi-hyphenate is now freed up once again to return to his typical ventures after the close of a highly publicized legal saga. On the music side, his Don’t Be Dumb rollout is kicking up anew, and for our purposes, as is his work with PUMA. For their latest chapter, the German giant is digging into its archives to return with their patented Disc technology, featured at the heart of the ASAP Rocky PUMA Monstro Disccord.
The circular closure unit is attached at the collar, paired with the synthetic corded laces consistent through its previous applications (last celebrated for tech’s 30th anniversary following a concerted effort behind the Disc Blaze in the 2010s.) Along with the new lace replacement, the Mostro takes a few steps beyond its typical seamless arrangement, instead opting for a layered composition that pins new no-sew overlays atop its mesh foundation. Finally, the textural lean of the shoe’s spiked traction is echoed through a quilted Formstrip and carbon fiber shank.
While Rocky’s stated goal with all of his PUMA work has been to push the envelope, rolling out an archival piece of tech and a sweeping aesthetic revamp is only natural on the Montsro, already leveraged for his line of 3D printed shoes. Additionally, the all-black colorway easily aligns with the ASAP Rocky PUMA lineage to date, typically including at least one stealthy option in each of their previous collections.
The PUMA Mostro Disccord releases on March 27th via PUMA channels and partnering retailers.
