Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re probably aware that Nike is bringing back the seamed big bubble on this year’s Air Max 95 “Neon” retro. More than that, the Beaverton brand is celebrating the model’s 30th anniversary with a slew of other releases featuring the same defining quality. This newly-uncovered black pair is one of them.
While the impending big bubble Air Max 95s pay tribute to OG tooling, we’d be remiss to ignore that the Air units aren’t exactly the same. Back in 1995, Nike utilized a potent greenhouse gas called sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) in its various Air Max shoes. In 2006, in an effort to reduce its environmental impact, Nike transitioned to using 100% nitrogen in every sneaker featuring Air cushioning.
Visually, the Air units of original Air Max 95s are a bit more protruded, spilling out around the heel section. The modern Air units are smaller by comparison, appearing more flush with the midsole.
As for the rest of this newly-uncovered black colorway, the upper comes outfitted in all-leather sidewalls. Snakeskin and safari-inspired textures are balanced out by standard smooth leather, adding some intrigue to an unassuming colorway.
These don’t have a concrete release date yet, but we’ll be sure to update this article once pairs begin cropping up at retailers. For now, enjoy detailed images below.
