Original article published March 7th, 2025:
Japanese baseball phenom Shohei Ohtani is gearing up to release his first ever New Balance lifestyle sneaker. Coinciding with MLB’s Tokyo Series matchups, a Shohei Ohtani New Balance 990v6 will drop exclusively in Japan on March 15th.
The sneaker is part of a larger “Made For Shohei Ohtani” capsule alongside three limited-edition apparel items. New Balance is putting on an elaborate pop-up in Shibuya, Tokyo from March 15th-23rd, where visitors can shop exclusive product, learn about the inspiration behind Shohei’s signature logo, and even participate in some baseball activities.
This all occurs as MLB hosts a Tokyo Series featuring the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, and two of Japan’s most decorated Nippon Professional Baseball squads. Shohei Ohtani, joined by Dodgers countrymen Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki, is the man all eyes are on. He’s the best two-way player since Babe Ruth, and his fanbase pulls from two of the biggest baseball markets on the planet. He’s the face of the Dodgers, and unquestionably the face of New Balance baseball. If you watched him win his first MLB championship over the Yankees in the World Series last year, his New Balance commercials were inescapable. Needless to say, his debut New Balance lifestyle shoe will have a sizable audience of eager buyers.
As mentioned, the Shohei Ohtani New Balance 990v6 releases March 15th exclusively online in Japan. No images of the shoe have been unveiled yet, but we’ll update this article as soon as that changes.
