New Balance heads have been waiting on this moment for three years. Following another Joe Freshgoods collab, the New Balance 992 has returned in core colorways for Spring/Summer.
Five styles make up the core lineup; grey, black/grey, triple black, navy, and “Nimbus Cloud” (the navy colorway is the only one yet to release). While the SKUs are different this time around, the core colorways are basically re-issues from the model’s 2020-2022 stint. There are some subtle shading changes, but that’s about it.
The New Balance 992 is a fan favorite for several reasons. Originally introduced in 2006 for the Boston brand’s 100th anniversary, the 992 had a strong ambassador from day one in the late Steve Jobs. It returned by way of a grail-tier Joe Freshgoods collab in 2020, followed by other strong projects by JJJJound, Studio FY7, and Levi’s to name a few. Core colorways were also available before New Balance temporarily shelved the model in 2022. It’s the chunkiest member of the 99X family, and many claim it’s the most comfortable. Most pairs feature mesh, leather, and the most high-quality suede you’ll find on a mass-produced sneaker.
The core New Balance 992 colorways are available now for $200; see our “Where To Buy” sections below for direct purchase links.
