Original article published March 6th, 2025:

New Balance is gearing up for the sunnier days ahead. While they’ve redoubled their efforts on the elevated, dressy side of things with silhouettes like the New Balance Allerdale, their sportstyle offerings have carved out some sprightlier looks as we enter the bulk of Spring/Summer ’25. The latest to emerge from that group is the New Balance 990v6, dressed in a vibrant “Avocado / Natural Mint.”

Certainly, the Boston brand has already spread its wings beyond their monochromatic aesthetic across its catalog. However, the New Balance 990v6 has mostly stuck in that territory. An inline pair arriving with this sort of look, draped in a slew of green shades that tint up and down across the leather eyelets, mesh base, and suede mudguard, does mark a sharp left turn.

Of course, there’s a high likelihood that Aime Leon Dore head and Made In USA director Teddy Santis deserves some credit for this New Balance 990v6 “Avocado.” In past years, we’ve usually received a full preview of Santis’ seasonal cohort by this juncture, which would make it easier to stamp this pair’s origins conclusively. Regardless of whether this shoe is indeed part of the NYC creative’s lineage or just an inline pair, the seasonal appeal shines through all the same.

The New Balance 990v6 “Avocado” is expected to release Summer 2025, retailing for $200.
