Melo's latest embraces a lower profile.

LaMelo Ball Reinvents The PUMA MB.04 As A Low

LaMelo Ball remains one of the most polarizing players in the league, undeniably the owner of an extremely eye-catching, in-your-face play style, even if the continued struggles of the Hornets cast a pall on his limitless potential. What’s less complicated is the success PUMA has had with him as the face of their Hoops vertical. Soon, his already vast catalog will gain another entrant, as Ball’s latest signature goes low-pro via the PUMA MB.04 Low.

Though the expressive design language that permeates LaMelo Ball shoes lingers on here, the decrease in height comes with a vast simplification of the MB.04’s original composition. For one, the tendril-like TPU cage that engulfs the front of the parent model is removed entirely, visible at the eye-stays, which swap from a “1 Of One” collar for a thin graphic counterpart.

The tongue also sees some remodeling, removing the Phoenix logo and pinning it as a heel badge perched on the rear. For this initial colorway, light blue and red drape bubbled patterns throughout the base of the shoe. All of that is punctuated by the curvilinear structure of the PUMA MB.04, including the dune-like bumps in the upper.

On top of being a well-established formula throughout the basketball shoes world, PUMA and Ball have consistently employed this mid-to-low strategy a few months into each respective life cycle, chopping down each of his three shoes for the Summer season. Each of those past offshoots has also reduced their retail pricing, so though a concrete sticker price isn’t known yet, expect the PUMA MB.04 Low to slightly lessen the typical $125.
