Multi-talented creative and sneaker collector Bisso is releasing a Saucony Shadow 5000 collaboration dedicated to his West Indies homeland. Inspired by native hot peppers, the “Bondamanjak” Shadow 5000 is limited to just 2,100 pairs and will release on March 1st for $150.
To the uninitiated; the bondamanjak is one the the spiciest peppers in the world and a staple of Caribbean cuisine. The theme is simultaneously intended to represent the strength and vitality of Caribbean women, who Bisso mentions play a critical role in maintaining local traditions. Bisso enlisted his daughter, Amandine, to star in the campaign (seen below).
The sneaker aims to portray the stages of ripening through a vibrant, playful multicolor design. Premium red, orange, and green paneling wrap the upper, complemented by light blue lining and laces as a nod to the clear waters around Guadeloupe, Bisso’s home island. Moreover, traditional madras print textiles are applied uniquely to the quarter of each shoe, essentially making each pair a 1-of-1 of sorts. The insoles feature bondamanjak-inspired graphics, while embroidered Selecta Bisso logos on the tongue and heel round out all the highlights.
According to IG posts by the man himself, the Bisso x Saucony Shadow 5000 “Bondamanjak” releases March 1st for $150 via select EU retailers. All indications suggest these will be difficult to cop, so keep our “Where To Buy” section below handy for purchase links.
