New Balance aficionados are assuredly on pins and needles awaiting updates on Teddy Santis’ seasonal Made in USA offerings, now a bit belated judging from when past year’s capsules have come about. However, sticking on his latest delivery for Fall/Winter 2024, the return of the New Balance 997 was one of the biggest updates contained within, delivering a duo of colorways as part of the chilly capsule. Now a third is entering the mix via the New Balance 997 “Light Mushroom,” beginning to appear on retailer websites.
Though Asphalt Gold (who provides these in-hand shots) lists this pair as a holdover from that FW crop, it’s unconfirmed whether this truly does carry the Santis stamp. However, that detail is secondary to the colorway on display, a blend of “Light Mushroom” and “Mirage Grey” that aligns well with what the neutrally-toned world the Boston brand has set up for decades.
Particularly eye-catching on this edition is the mixed materials at play, blending textured suede on the quarter, heel and toe-guard, TPU on the eyestay, perforated mesh at the toe-box and shaggy suede treatments peeking at the front of the shoe and tongue. For a final touch, exposed foam brings some deconstructed flair on the tongue.
The New Balance 997 Made in USA “Light Mushroom” is slated to release on March 27th, listed with a €240 retail price. Stateside MSRP is currently unconfirmed.
