As far as missed opportunities go, Nike’s decision to let Roger Federer walk after 24 years with the company has proven to be a huge mistake. Not because the Beaverton brand can no longer use his name and likeness, but because Federer’s deal with On Running has only helped bolster an emerging competitor. Now, the brand is entering its collaborations era as Asia’s Invincible announces their upcoming project.
Functional and stylish GRs have been the catalyst behind On’s meteoric rise, but we’re slowly starting to see the Swiss footwear brand step into the collaborative space with highly curated projects. Anchored by budding partnerships with LOEWE and POST ARCHIVE FACTION, the brand is now linking with Taiwanese retailer INVINCIBLE on a co-designed Cloudmonster 2 dubbed “Deconstructed Perfection”.

Like most On Running collaborations, the INVINCIBLE x Cloudmonster 2 can be described as a more contemporary, elegant take on the base model. Monotone “Ivory” envelops the entire silhouette, save for slight variances on the interior lining and branded elements. As fas as tooling goes, the Cloudmonster 2 features On’s hallmark CloudTec midsole; the largest CloudTec unit utilized in any On Running shoe, as a matter of fact. These also come with a nylon speedboard for improved forward propulsion, as well as ventilations in the tongue for breathability. Some runners swear by the Cloudmonster 2 for their daily exercise, while other aren’t as glowing in their feedback. As with most running sneakers, you should probably test out a pair before determining if the model is for you.
The INVINCIBLE x On Running Cloudmonster 2 releases Friday, February 21st at 9PM (EST) via www.invinciblesp.com, followed by a global release via retailers and select On Running stores on February 25th.
