The vast majority of Dover Street Market collaborations follow the same simple formula; paint it black, improve materials, and jack up the price. That might not be the most thoughtful creative process out there, but it’s helped them build a strong reputation among consumers looking for simple, elevated takes on popular models (which there are a lot of). The next Dover Street Market x New Balance collaboration is a “Triple Black” 991v2, shown here via official images.
For what it’s worth, New Balance already released a “Triple Black” 991v2 in Europe earlier this year. The only real changes on the DSM version are nubuck overlays (as opposed to softer suede) and slightly different New Balance logos. We know that the materials are on-point, but the same can be said about the GR and every “Made In England” New Balance shoe at that.
The New Balance 991v2 typically retails for $250, meaning the DSM collab is expected to carry a shelf price closer to $300. Whether that surcharge is worth it is up to you to decide.
