The story of the New Balance 550 isn’t one of “how the mighty have fallen,” but one of how a retro silhouette can age gracefully. To be sure, the model no longer holds the cultural purchase it did closer to its ALD-led introduction, but especially during 2024 into 2025, New Balance has dialed back the production numbers on the model to get ahead of its waning demand. It allows the shoe to stick closer to what made it a modern icon in the first place; wearing simplistic colors to match its throwback construction, exactly the prompt for the “Green Toe” New Balance 550 at hand.

With a color-blocking schemed played out on several recent editions, the neutrally-toned NB trademark takes up the most real estate here. However, as our title would suggest, the “Green Toe” an various contrast panels make the greatest impact, imbibing the shoe with viridescent flashes for some season-ready flair as we look to Spring. Again, the New Balance 550 may no longer be the trend-setter it once was, but its throwback hardware and easy wearability mean you can do much worse at its price point, especially in a complementary outfit like this.
