Tapping into a ton of throwback soccer nostalgia, the Nike Total 90 III SP is finally on tap to return to the marker. Retail images just landed of the “Sail” edition previously teased by the Swoosh, now expected to land for Spring 2025.
For the uninitiated, there a ton of idiosyncratic pieces of detailing with the Total 90 III SP; the quilted toe-box, defiant encircled “90” on the lateral side, and of course, the tilted lace unit. Originally built out to increase the strike zone on the boot and allow for more power generation and finer precision handling, in this lifestyle application it’s vestigial and presents solely as an off-kilter characteristic.
Football fans at large celebrated the news of the Total III SP’s return in the past two SNKRS previews, but likely to fill all of Nike’s hopes for this retro, it’ll have to strike a chord with a wider audience than simply that niche. The Samba has risen precipitously in the lifestyle power rankings without sacrificing its original football ethos, but whether that overrides the wonky (albeit very charming) design language of the shoe at hand is another question entirely. Conversely, this will only heighten the calls for an true boot retro, but as of right now, these everyday applications are the only versions totally confirmed.
To that end, the Nike Total III SP “Sail” arrives in women’s sizing in the coming weeks. A return for the orange/gum and burgundy/black is likely not too far behind. Expect a $100 retail price upon release.
