adidas Wants You To Fall In Love With The Ultra Boost Again

The OG is back for its 10th Anniversary.

adidas Wants You To Fall In Love With The Ultra Boost Again

Time flies. The adidas Ultra Boost dropped a decade ago, debuting at All-Star Weekend in NYC. Thing is, nobody really cared when it first came out until Kanye West, now known as Ye, rocked them on the regular. From that point on, the Ultraboost became firmly cemented into sneaker history as one of the greatest modern-day shoe designs and easily among the most iconic of the 21st century, while West started his Yeezy footwear line that at one point went neck-and-neck with Jordan Brand.

A Brief History Of The adidas Ultra Boost

From 2015-2017, the Ultra Boost was as dominant a force like prime Shaq in the paint, leading the charge in the German brand’s monumental growth from perennial second-place finisher to a contender for industry crown. It was the centerpiece of collaborations while being pushed hard on the seasonal in-line product front, positioning it as the most important, most wanted, and most celebrated sneaker for a three-year span in the mid-late 2010s.

Things have fallen off completely for the running shoe, at least on the culture/lifestyle front. adidas over-produced, over-pushed, and under-innovated, leading consumers to get entirely bored of the model. The following 2.0 iterations and beyond were merely swaps of the elastic Primeknit upper, and eventually the sock-like shoe aesthetic became a thing of the past. The NMD line exhibited a similar fate to the point where the entirety category is now sitting dormant, its life sustained by a breathing tube.

However, if history is accurate, trends always come back. For adidas, a 10th Anniversary is an opportunity to reintroduce the silhouette to the masses while schooling the young’ins on this iconic sneaker. adidas went as far as repurposing their outdated in-studio, poorly-lit photography to conjure up some nostalgia, and they’re even keeping the MSRP consistent at $180.
